I've told people before that the time to decide when you're going for a run is not when your head is on your pillow. Today I almost made that mistake.
When the alarm went off I felt like I needed a lot more sleep and seriously considered resetting the alarm for an hour later. In my mind I thought about how horrible the run was going to be, that it was cool (in the 40s), and that I could just run tomorrow followed by another one on Thursday. I probably considered that for a good two or three minutes before telling myself to get out of bed. I don't know what motivated me to actually do it, but I'm glad I did.
Today's run was far better than yesterday. I ran 6 miles and even though it was cool it was actually nice and sunny. I even put on sunscreen. I felt good and ran the whole way, even by the golf course. It was pretty clear to me early on that it was going to be a good run and I felt justified in my decision. If I'd listened to my lazy self I would have missed out on a really good start to my day. Sometimes you can surprise yourself and my run today certainly surprised me.
