Today was a relatively modest 14-miler, and I was out the door before 6 a.m. Compared to last week's long run it wasn't as hot, but it was definitely more humid. I was sweating profusely about 2 miles into the run, and I do have to say it wasn't the easiest run I've had. I was wondering if maybe there was something sinister about this particular distance (see my previous 14-mile effort), but I put that worry to rest.
Lots of people out this morning walking and running, plus a few bikers. One thing I learned is that if I'm going to set a time goal for my marathon I'll have to pick up the pace a little. I think today averaged out to about 11 minutes/mile, and really I'd rather be closer to 10. I'm also way below the mark on the recommended mileage per week on my plan. For instance, this week's total was supposed to be 40 miles and my total was 31.5. I don't run the day before the long run, so that takes away 4-5 miles right there, but maybe I need to add a little extra on the other days. I don't want to increase it too much, though, since therein lies an easy path to injury. It would also help my cause if this heat wave would take a hike, but the next few days look like more of the same.
